Dutch symphonic metal maestros, Delain return to North America on the Hunter's Moon tour. The EP of the same name dropped back in February and a new full length release is imminent, with the first single from it having emerged just prior to the launch of the tour.
Delain centers around the extraordinary front woman, Charlotte Wessels, whose beautiful voice lends passion and power to the lush metal workings of her fellow band mates.
Joining Charlotte are co-founder and master composer, Martijn Westerholt on keyboards, Timo Somers on guitar, Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije on bass guitar, and Joey de Boer on drums.
They kicked off the show with the brand new single, "Burning Bridges". Charlotte instantly pulls the audience in with her genuine smile and uplifting voice. The symphonic keyboards layer in a powerful base with driving guitars and drums pushing it to another level.
The crowd enthusiastically engaged with arms in the air and head banging along. The band kept up the momentum with several fan-favorites in a row starting with "Suckerpunch" and "Fire with Fire", inspiring the room to raise their voices and sing along.
"Stardust" led into "Masters of Destiny" from the "Hunter's Moon" EP before they performed the title track from their sophomore album, "April Rain".
Having formed in 2006, they have a lot of material to choose from for their live sets and they tried to give some attention to every release.
Moving on to the second half of their set, they did "Control the Storm", "Mother Machine", and "Pristine" covering their first three albums before giving us a more recent song from the latest full length, "Moonbathers" in the form of "Hands of Gold".
They finished up the set with two of their most popular songs which brought cheers from the audience when they played "Don't Let Go" and the grand finale had everyone singing along for "We Are the Others".
It was a great show, I always love seeing Delain live. Charlotte has an amazing charisma and their music really lifts the spirit, resonating days after the show has concluded.
They are currently touring with Amorphis and Anneke van Giersbergen so you couldn't ask for a better line up.
