Soho Rezanejad is a solo artist that blends ethereal vocals with moody, but dance-friendly, electronic sonic structures. Falling somewhere between synth-pop and electro-goth, this style is right in vein with my tastes.

I just discovered her while investigating the bands that were playing the Cloak & Dagger festival here in Los Angeles and immediately found her voice captivating, bringing the proverbial beauty in darkness to a tangible reality.

It was actually quite difficult to find out more information about the one woman project, but what I could find showed that Soho is of Danish and Iranian descent.

She currently resides in Copenhagen as well as touring the globe in support of both her solo project and also in collaboration with the band Lust For Youth (who also played the festival and I was lucky enough to catch some of the set for which she sang).

Her album, "Idolatry" is readily available to stream through Spotify and Soundcloud and I definitely recommend checking it out. Her vocals channel goth legends like Siouxsie Siouxe and Monica Richards but she definitely has her own sound to set her apart.

Soho played the Globe Theatre basement stage, which wasn't exactly a stage per say, but more of an area cordoned off in the columned underbelly of the old theater.  Lighting was limited to an amber directional spot light, but in this case it added to the mystery and enigmatic qualities that Soho exudes.

Most of the set Soho moved about the small area, dancing and gesturing with the music, taking occasional stops at her music equipment to tweak some parameters or set up the next song.

She did at least a half dozen songs for the set but, being as new as I am to her music, I really could not identify them by name. Lack of familiarity did not detract from the performance in anyway however, and the crowd gathered around her as festival goers were drawn in by both her appearance and sound.

I had the privilege of running into her later during the festival and let her know I had just discovered her music and how cool I thought her live show was. She was very gracious and thankful and seemed like a really cool person.

I look forward to listening to more of her material and hopefully get to see her play live again in the near future.
