20. Virtual: I really like it when Blayne sings with Chad Bishop of Idiot
Stare at the live shows. Would you like to sing with Chad and do a track
together?
Blayne: Yes. We are suppose to, on both of our next albums. I think there
will be a lot more collaboration. I know that Chad and I are going to get
together when we get back from touring. We are going to write a shitload
of lyrics and see what comes out of it. We're keeping our options open on
whether it's going to be side work. We are planning a project where Chad
and I write lyrics for one song in particular. Then we're going to take
it back to our respective bands and write completely different songs with
those set lyrics, for the song that we'll call the same name. We'll each
do stuff on each other's project. Both the next Idiot Stare album and Insight
23 album will have this song on it that's titled the same thing and be completely
different which will be really fun.
21. Virtual: Do you plan on providing quality merchandise for your fans?
Blayne: Yes. We have three shirts coming within the next week.
John: The logo, the album cover, and a special one.
Blayne: A tour only shirt, and the shirts will be available through web
distribution.
22. Virtual: Are you all single? What do you think of the women in California?
Is there a type of women Insight 23 like?
Brittain: Yes. They're boggling man, they make me crazy!
John: That's just women in general.
Blayne: The easy ones.
23. Virtual: Where is the PsychoWhoreRoom?
Blayne: At John's house.
Virtual: It seems like only some of the songs were done at the PsychoWhoreRoom.
Blayne: Only the special ones.
John: The other songs were done at I/O Studios in Semi Valley where I use
to live. I lived in the back of the studio when I was growing up.
Blayne: It's a really cool studio.
24. Virtual: Matt Chidgey engineered your CD? Who is he and why him?
John: Matt is the person that owns the studio, and I've known Matt since
I was thirteen. I recorded my first song there. Matt was in a band called,
"Theater", kind of a metal band. He's recorded a lot of different
bands. He has a cool studio as far as being adequate for recording, "Obsess"
and he was willing to work with us financially.
Blayne: Actually, the recording of "Obsess" was kind of by accident.
We went in there to record a demo. It became not even up to us. When we
first started recording Matt and Chad clicked really well together. As far
as we've heard it, Matt and Chad had a little meeting without us involved.
John: When they went to go get beer.
Blayne: They were like, "Are we recording a demo here or are we recording
an album"? They both agreed that the way recording had gone so far,
they were actually recording an album.
25. Virtual: Blayne, where do you draw your influences when writing lyrics?
What usually inspires you to write?
Blayne: I've always written from imagery in my head. So a lot of times people
would ask me what a song was about and I really couldn't tell them. I could
tell them what it looked like. When I first started writing with John I
had just started to tap into writing from personal experiences, which I
had never really done before. "Obsess" is written and based on
personal experiences and that's really where all my writing has come from
since then. Whether it be something I'm experiencing at the time, or something
that draws back from the past. The songs on the next album I've transcended
into a different level of writing which has been very exciting, and actually
really difficult. It's still developed from personal experience, but it's
also very visual as well. I can be inspired visually by directors and by
writers. I really have to say, with all pretentiousness aside, I don't draw
much inspiration from others when writing my lyrics.
26. Virtual: I hope your next CD continues with the aggressive-experimental-
industrial style, with well written lyrics. Do you have a theme for your
next release?
John: Yes, with a lot more power and confidence in ourselves and that will
transcend into the writing as well.
Blayne: We have a working title, it's called, "Relapse".
27. Virtual: What did Zalman Fishman do as the Executive Producer? Do you
plan to work with him again?
Blayne: He paid for it, that's about it.
John: In the beginning we didn't even know who he was, until the album was
out. He's the owner of Fifth Column, or the financial backing, so he gets
the Executive Producer credit.
Blayne: That's something we don't really agree with, but that's the label
thing.
John: The album was recorded way before we went to Fifth Column.
28. Virtual: What's going on with your web site? Who's
doing it?
John: I am, it's been a long time since I've done anything to it obviously.
If you go there now, http://process.usc.edu/i23/
with a Shockwave plug-in for Netscape, it gives you full animation. It's
still under construction and I'll be working on it from the tour and it
will be really rad. You'll be impressed.
Blayne: We're taking John's laptop with us on tour and we'll be checking
mail and be able to correspond.
Virtual: Can I assume you will have a CD ROM on your next CD?
Blayne: I don't think so, I don't think we want one.
John: Just because of the problems we've had with DJ's, as far as putting
it in and not knowing which track is what. We may do a separate CD that
will be a limited edition with unreleased tracks, another CD ROM demo, video
quick time, etc.
29. Virtual: Have you contacted Ogre recently? Can you share any information
on his band, W.E.L.T. and if he plans to play live as W.E.L.T. and have
Insight 23 open for them?
Blayne: Last contact we had with Ogre he flaked on our Christmas outing
to the dairy.
John: Haunted dairy.
Blayne: We go to this haunted dairy every Christmas Eve and he was suppose
to go this last time. We haven't actually spoke with him in sometime. So,
I'm right there with you, we don't know what the hell is going on with W.E.L.T.
John: We hope we will open for them.
