| Lullacry Live September 2, 2004
This was my opportunity to see Lullacry live for an early, all ages performance at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on the Sunset Strip. Lullacry opened for Nightwish and I had been anticipating the show for well over a month.
I listened to some of the band's recent tracks online and felt Lullacry's energy and knew I was going to enjoy experiencing them live.
Tanja was quite petite and appeared to be in her early 20's and her voice was really strong and admirable. When she would talk between their set I heard a much stronger accent which was really cool.
Tanja was very professional and could entertain the audience well. She had a very good stage presence and attitude towards the LA crowd. Lullacry was an excellent choice for Nightwish to tour with.
I focused on Sami Vauhkonen playing lead guitar with his funny facial expressions and beautiful long blonde hair. I liked watching Jukka Outinen on drums while I was in the photo pit. At times when I was up close in the photo pit the band looked really lit up with strong white lights.
Out in the crowd later and even during the first three songs, the stage appeared to have more of a red glow like many of these photos I took.
I tried to photograph Heavy who plays bass and Sauli Kivilahti who also plays guitar but they were doing allot of hair whipping and moving around.
Seeing Lullacry live made me want to see more metal crossover bands live. I really think Sauli, Sami, Tanja, Heavy and Jukka all really compliment one another. Their talent shows and Tanja did a great job interacting with the crowd.
Lullacry created a memorable experience and many new fans, I'm sure. The show was fun and a worth while experience having them play and tour in America all the way from Finland. The new disc, "Fire Within" is awesome and even better for those of us who heard the new theme track done live!

Seeing Lullacry live:
A Review By Travis Baumann
Having had no prior experience with the band I wasn't sure what to expect from them, but seeing as they were selected to tour with Nightwish, I figured it had to be something along those lines so I was down for it.
Lullacry do indeed share some aspects with their tour mates but instead of operatic or classical style vocals, the attractive lead singer comes across with a harsher metal style with a little bit of a bite to it (somewhere in between Lacuna Coil and Guano Apes which is meant as a compliment).
Their strength was in powerful metal anthems, the two blond guitarists blasted out riffs swinging their hair around, they would fit right in visiting the Halls of Asgard and Valhalla.
The bassist sang backup quite nicely, adding more of a metal growl to the right accents. His bass playing impressed me heavily keeping a nice rumbling rhythm laying over the drums perfectly.
By the second song they had me won over and the rest of the audience as well. The songs came with cheers and applause and many devil-horned claws shoved skyward as the set played on. It was fun to see the band having fun on stage as well. Sami especially seemed to really enjoy what he was doing up there as did the lead singer and the audience fed off that energy.
Their cover of L.O.V.E. Machine met with a hearty sing along. At first I didn't recognize it not having jogged my memory back to the early eighties for a while but everyone else did as cheers broke out around me after the first few notes of the song seemingly.
I highly recommend seeing these guys live if they come near your area, especially if they are with Nightwish as it was a super blast of a show.
