Peter Turns Pirate is a one man Electro-Industrial act out of Toronto, Canada. Wearing a theatrical mask and donning duds from another time period, "Peter" leaps around the stage and off of it.

Tearing through the audience or standing on top of a glass cube that shoots beams of light from within to great effect on stage, he never stops moving.

A heavy dose of Electronic, EBM, and Industrial style beats and synths lay the backdrop for aggressive vocals and energetic stage antics. For a one man show, he came up with pretty great lighting tricks and has a powerful stage presence.

I never heard of the artist until catching him as the opening act for En Esch and <PIG> at the Complex in Glendale. It is an intimate venue and he completely filled the room with his intense sound as well as physically moving through the entirety of the place, even running out on the back patio mid-performance at one point.

It was a great show to kick off the night and all the people I was with commented on it later. He reminded me a bit of Seibold from Hate Dept. the way he would jump off stage and go right up in audience member faces while singing.

The lighting show was intense and erratic so gave an almost abstract impression at points, as you could literally only see the mask suspended in the darkness to then be blinded by bright beams blasted out towards the audience. Due to the lighting, photography was tough but I think it is worth promoting this act so I did what I could.

I would totally see this guy again, he is really entertaining. Online it says "Peter" is actually Neal Reed and that his influences include Michael Jackson (listed first), NIN, Mudvayne, Skinny Puppy, and Mike Patton. You really only have to hear the last two and that sums up his music style and manic stage antics pretty well.
