Vowws

Live at The Viper Room

Los Angeles, California

Vowws are an enigmatic duo that create an old-school Gothic Industrial sound very much akin to bands like Clan of Xymox or Diary of Dreams but with even more emphasis on electronic textures and beats.

Equal parts of male and female vocals combine to form moody stories relating to all things dark and Gothic, and further set them apart form their contemporaries. The gentleman portion of Vowws sings and plays guitar, while the appropriately Gothed-up woman sings behind a bank of electronic instruments, sporting Siouxsie inspired eye makeup.

Through research online, I came up with nothing in terms of who the two artists are or any set lists for their live shows, but what I do know is that I liked them a lot.

I was unaware of them until seeing them live at this show where they opened up for home-town heros, 3teeth. I was happy that we got to the venue in time to catch their performance, and I have been listening to them on SoundCloud and Spotify since the show.

Songs like "Councillor", "Holy Youth", and "The Great Sun" range from Industrial tracks to more sombre and contemplative material.

I am glad there are still bands interested in building these sound scapes and moods, as a lot of the Gothic movement has seemed to go more Rockabilly or Deathrock which are more raw and I like this atmospheric basis in electronics much better.

I plan on checking these guys out again the next time they play live in Los Angeles.
