Worm Live at The Teragram Ballroom Los Angeles, CA June 7th, 2026 Review and photos by Travis Baumann Self described as "Nekromantic Black Doom", Worm encapsulate the vibe in every way. Their music ranges from Old-School Gothic influences to full-on Norwegian Symphonic Black Metal and a lot of ground in between. Centered around the mysterious figure known as Phantom Slaughter, what started as a solo project has morphed into a full band and their latest release, "Necropalace" gained instant critical and fan endorsement when it came out in February. The show was literally bathed in smoke, the room was one giant hazy fog layer with visibility to an absolute minimum. Phantom appeared in a Victorian-esque outfit - at first glance - but upon closer inspection you see the bullet-belts, leather straps across the chest, and of course the very large sword with dragon-wing cross-guard over his shoulder. Phantom Slaughter (a.k.a. Wurm) was joined by their main conspirator, Wroth Septentrion on guitar as well as Equimanthorn on drums, and Nihilistic Manifesto on guitar. P.S. brandished their sword and drank from a brass chalice that sat on a ceremonial table next to them periodically. They played "Necropalace" in near entirety and added "Sea of Sorrow" from the Starpath EP to finish off the set. They did not do an encore, when the last song ended, the just walked off into the fog and disappeared. There was no banter or discussion from the band, this was the "Total Possession of North America" tour and they were in full theatrical mode, every gesture, lyric, and moment was in character. Their live delivery is a bit heavier Black Metal than the recorded material inducing some circle pit action. I love Black Metal but I also love the Gothic tones and cinematic atmosphere that Worm invoke. The venue was super packed, and a very diverse crowd with a large range of racial backgrounds, genders, and age ranges. I have only known about this group for a little over a year so I was really surprised at the turnout, but stoked for the band. It was a great show and fun first live encounter with a fairly new band for me. I will be looking forward to listening to "Necropalace" in new context and hope they return soon.
